Simón Ruiz, PhD. is a Doctor of Science with a mention in Molecular Biology from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He is currently a researcher and academic at the Institute of Biological Sciences of the University of Talca, Chile. He is also a member of the academic faculty of the PhD Program in Sciences, mention Plant Biology and Biotechnology, of the same university.

Research areas: Gene expression analysis of mobile genetic elements in native and cultivated varieties of tomato. Isolation and characterization of these elements and their regulatory sequences. Genetic expression analysis of Biotic and abiotic stress tolerance genes in native plants. Development of cloning vectors for economically important plant transformation systems.
